Field Method

Area of choice
My pup Taisyn and I headed off to find the perfect place for the lab. The sight I chose was the forest across the street from my place. This was the perfect place to land for me, as I was looking for a lot of life. This particular spot was chosen because it had a patch of perfect looking life I could settle down and study.

The measuring begins

The observing begins

The "Yellow Flowers" and "Grass Patches"

What's on the line?

And the results are in:

Square Number Number of Different Species in Square
11 2
12 2
15 2
6 4
16 1
9 3
14 1
8 3

There were some pretty good results found in this lab, as I found 9 different species in my observations for the first method. As for my second method, I didn't have such luck and only had 3 species that crossed the line. The first method definitely caught the scene of the forest best and it provided a taste of the variety of life residing on this beautiful land.

Dispersal patterns I found was when there was life, it was together in "patches." These patches also had the tendency to bless there presence near the trees and in more "shady" areas. Grass patches were the only species that was spread throughout lacking any sort of pattern.

I was really pleased with the results I got and wouldn't really change anything as far as the methods used.

  1. I enjoyed reading your lab report. It is fun to see your site and the clear photos of your work.
